  1. Greetings.

Hello, young ladies and gentlemen! My name is ________. I’m very happy to be here today. I’m very glad to meet you. I hope you are fine today.

  1. Introduction

I have brought a surprise for you. It is an invitation to a city that I like very much. I’d like you to guess what place it is. I can help you a little. Look at the three keys:

  • This city is 2,000 years old

  • People speak English there

  • You can see red double-decker buses there

You are absolutely right – it is an invitation to London.

  1. Phonetic work

The invitation has a funny poem about London. First listen to it and say who can ask the question. Yes, a tourist can ask such a question. Now let’s recite it together. Snap your fingers when you read the red words and clap your hands when you read the blue words.

Up and down, up and down

Which is the way to London Town?

One foot up and one foot down

That is the way to London town.

  1. Stating the aims

Millions of tourists from different countries come to London every year. Why is it so popular with tourists?

^ London is popular with tourists because it is big/ clean/ interesting/ famous/ beautiful/ historical/ modern/ fantastic /well-known/ lovely

We can say a lot of nice things about London. The company whose invitation I have also would like to know about Lipetsk. Is Lipetsk popular with tourists too? What kind of place is Lipetsk?

There are a lot of places of interest in London: galleries, theatres, cinemas, parks, stadiums, museums. And in Lipetsk?

In London there are a lot of museums and some of them are very unusual. What about Lipetsk? (учащиеся строят предложения о Липецке по аналогии с предложениями о Лондоне, комбинируя данные слова)

Would you like to have an unusual museum in Lipetsk? ^ Then we have a chance to visit some unusual museums in London and get ideas for a museum in Lipetsk.

  1. Vocabulary revision

We are going to travel by a double-decker bus offered by the Big Bus Company. Have you got any English money to pay for the trip? No, you haven’t – that’s not a problem. Look at the mixed up names of some popular places in London. Each correct answer is your bus fare.

The Bloody Palace

Trafalgar Bridge

Buckingham Square

The Houses of Tower

The National Abbey

Westminster Ben

The Tower of Gallery

St. London

Big Parliament

Tower Paul’s

(за правильный ответ ученик получает жетон с изображением автобуса и становится сзади макета лондонского автобуса)

Let’s start our trip! Look at the map of London. These are the streets we are passing. You can see the names and the pictures of some sights – can you drag the pictures to their proper places?

(работа интердоской – перетаскивание картинок к соответствующему названию достопримечательности)

(St. Paul’s, Westminster Abbey, the House of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, Tower Bridge)

  1. Reading/speaking

Here is our first stop. You can leave the bus now. Let’s see what museum it is: the Museum of London. Read the information about it and say what this museum is devoted to?

The Museum of London is the largest city museum in the world. It is devoted to the history of London. Visitors can see some very old things there. They show how people lived and worked in the past. There are big collections of paintings and photos in the museum.

Is it interesting to see old things? Why?

Very soon a new gallery will open in the museum. It is devoted to the history of London in the war time. During the war London was bombed heavily. You can see in the photos how it was. Can you recognize the places in the pictures? ((St. Paul’s, the Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square, Tower Bridge)

Here are some mixed up facts about these places. Can you sort them out and make stories?

_____ is a big church. Some famous English people are buried here.

_____ is one of the most famous bridges across the Thames. It opens and ships go up and down the river.

_____ is a beautiful square. It has a tall column to Admiral Nelson in the centre.

_____ is a symbol of London. It is a tower with a clock and a big bell in it.

Thank you for your stories and now let’s go on.

  1. Reading /speaking

The next museum we are going to visit is Bramah tea museum. Read the information and say what people can learn about there.

Bramah tea museum is the first tea museum in the world. It tells you about tea. You can learn about the history of tea and tea traditions in different countries. You can see the biggest and the smallest teapot in the world and many unusual teapots too. You can drink exotic teas in the Tea room and learn how to make English tea. You can buy fantastic souvenirs and any kind of tea from the museum’s great collection.

Read the information and say what people can do at this museum? (learn facts, see unusual teapots, drink tea, buy souvenirs)

Today all visitors can take part in a funny competition. We’ll have two teams: “Teacups” and “Teapots”. (читать правильный вариант после вставления слова)

  • Tea is British old/ local/ favourite/ social drink.

  • They can drink tea 7/ 20/ 100 times a day.

  • It is a tradition to drink tea in the morning/ in the evening/ at 5 o’clock/ at night.

  • British people like tea with milk/ honey/ cream/ wine.

  • People often have tea holidays/ picnics/ parties/ weekends.

  • They invite/ arrange/ miss/ play guests to tea parties.

  • They serve tea with cakes and bread and jam/ fish and chips/ cold meat/ ham and eggs.

  • They call tea with lemon English/ Russian/ American/ Indian tea.

The competition is not over! Look – Mad Hatter is going to play with you. Listen to his instructions and do the task!

In the tea museum there is an unusual singing teapot. Let’s listen to its song and dance together. (I’m a little teapot).

  1. Reading/speaking

Our last stop is at the Childhood Museum. Read the information and say why children like to come to the Museum of Childhood.

The Childhood Museum has a great collection of things for children. Visitors can see toys, clothes, furniture for children. Some things are 200 or 300 hundred years old. Children can play with the toys in the playroom, make some new toys, send postcards to their friends, write stories about their favourite toys, buy wonderful souvenirs. Children love this museum!

There is a special book in the museum where children can write stories about their favourite toys. Have you got a favourite toy? What can you say about it? Here’s a story a little girl wrote. You can use it as a plan.

My favourite toy is my teddy-bear. My granny gave it to me as a present last Christmas. My teddy-bear is small and brown. It has a funny hat on. It can sing a Christmas song. I love my teddy-bear very much.

  1. ^ Project work

It’s a pity but our trip is over. The travel company would like to know which museum you liked best. Would you like to have a similar museum in Lipetsk?

There are some more ideas for unusual museums in Lipetsk: Ice-Cream Museum, Apple Museum, Mineral Water Museum, Crafts Museum, Song Museum, Car Museum. You can come out with your own idea. Discuss your ideas in your small groups and share them with us. You can follow this pattern.

Our new museum is _________

The museum is devoted to __________

There are _________ things there.

It has a great collection of _______.

It tells/shows us ________.

Visitors can see/buy ________ there.

Our museum can make Lipetsk more interesting for/popular with tourists.

  1. Round-up

Thank you for you projects. All of them are really interesting. I think you can discuss them with your classmates and teachers and choose the best one. One day we will see such a museum in Lipetsk. Here is my present to you – it will remind you of our today’s trip to London.

How many tokens have you got? Your marks are …

Come up to the picture of the bus and draw mouths on the faces: a happy smile if you liked our trip, if you didn’t you can draw an unhappy smile.
